San Diego-based therapists Carole Osborne (California Certified Massage Therapist #4819) and Marjeanne Estes (California Certified Massage Therapist #5005), offer therapeutic massage and bodywork for individuals seeking pain relief, nurturing, stress reduction and inner harmony.

How We Can Help You

At our individual San Diego therapy offices, we each work with a full spectrum of clients. We also specialize in treating pregnant and postpartum clients and their families, as well as individuals who are recovering from physical and/or emotional trauma.

In a typical session with either Carole or Marjeanne, she will use soothing, subtle rocking movements blended with firm deep pressure. Aimed to your body’s deeper layers and your nervous system, this will help to reduce tension and pain due to misalignments, past lingering injuries, repetitive movements, traumatic experiences and chronic stress. Always moderated to be pleasurable yet deep, most clients find this work to be both soothing and demanding in its intensity. And it is oh-so exquisitely effective!

We have been practitioners and massage therapy teachers for decades.

What that means for you is that we are exceptionally knowledgeable, current, evidence-based and both thoughtful and creative in assessing and treating you. In addition to the work described above, we are highly skilled in other touch modalities, including techniques such as long, gliding and kneading movements, deep compression into trigger and pressure points, stretching and mobilization of joints, and soothing contact with the nervous system.

Services

Expecting a baby is usually joyful, but- to be honest- it is also stressful and can be uncomfortable. Prenatal massage therapy uses techniques designed specifically to address pregnancy’s challenges and maximize its joys. Several research studies suggest that pregnancy massage therapy may help to:

  • Encourage relaxation and reduce anxiety
  • Help alleviate muscle and joint pain
  • Improve breathing, digestion and sleep
  • Improve mom and baby’s health by reducing the negative impacts of stress such as gestational hypertension, prematurity and low birth weight
  • Help mom feel more at ease and in touch with herself and her baby
  • Contribute to easier, shorter labors
  • And it feels so good!

After giving birth, massage therapy can help abdominal recovery; reduce the strain of baby care on mom’s body; support satisfying breastfeeding and/or bottle-feeding; and nurture mom and her family. Moms who are massaged tend to more quickly and fully towards touching their babies in loving, nurturing ways.

And that leads to a more peaceful world for us all!

Oh, and since dads, partners and other family members also need nurturing touch, we can schedule sessions with them too!

Life’s challenges often create areas of tension, pain, and disorganization in our bodies (soma) and in our feelings (emotions). Using rhythmic movement, sensitive pressure, breath awareness, imagery, and verbal dialogue, this bodywork approach focuses on reconnecting body, mind and emotions. It can help process memory and feeling that is locked in painful or numb body areas. It is especially appropriate for pain and tension from traumatic injury and from addictive/compulsive and dysfunctional experiences. It is effective for those recovering from physical and emotional abuse, drug and alcohol addiction and as part of treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Some babies need the knowledgeable hands of a massage therapist, in addition to their own loving caregivers’ touch. Babies with structural misalignments, cerebral palsy, prematurity, constipation, digestive upset and other conditions can improve with gentle, specific massage and passive mobilizations of their joints and muscles. Parents usually learn basic and specially selected massage techniques to extend and continue the session work.

Testimonials

Carole has worked on my body, and therefore my spirit and inner being, for over 30 years. We have been through pregnancies; the usual joys, aches and pains of life and love; cancer; divorce; a second round of cancer; and rediscovering wholeness. Her touch is strong, gentle, intuitive, focused and healing within a single session. Carole’s integration of guided imagery as part of the session is amazingly powerful and healing. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have experienced her therapeutic approach for so many years.

I always feel deeply seen, heard, and supported in Carole’s presence. Even before I get on the table I begin to open, soften, and heal emotionally.  Carole’s sensitive blend of deep tissue and passive joint movement to coax surrender of taut, guarded tissue coupled with wisely guided somatic inquiry has been invaluable for me.

With impeccable ethical and professional skills, Carole Osborne facilitates growth on the most profound level. When I work with Carole we are in partnership, yet the strength of the transformation is my own.

Through her massage, Carole has helped me rediscover my body, releasing blockage I often didn’t know I had.  As a result, I am much more present and comfortable in my body as well as my surroundings.

Carole’s decades of massage practice and teaching shine through when her hands connect with my body. Time well spent!

Walking into Carole’s studio once a week was like escaping to an oasis during the intense months of my third pregnancy and the months following birth. As cliched as that might sound, finding such an oasis and keeper of it is not so easy for most of us. What’s important to know is there was no masking of fragrances or candles. It really was the sincere care and vast expert knowledge that imbues Carole’s approach along with her healing touch that made this true long-lasting therapy. I am forever grateful. My time with Carole remains one of my most favorite and dear memories while living in San Diego.
